Original Painting - Mist on the Big Island

Original artwork painted in acrylic on canvas by artist Catherine Plante in 2026.

This work is inspired by my solo exploration of Grande Île, in the Mingan Archipelago. On July 3, 2026, I set out to explore the misty coasts of this magnificent island. It was a day filled with introspection, contemplation, and wonder. The island was completely enveloped in a thick blanket of fog, giving the atmosphere a mysterious aura. A silence enveloped the entire island, barely disturbed by the sound of waves and the breath of a cetacean offshore. I painted a group of White-winged Scoters, a scene regularly observed in the islands.

This acrylic on canvas was created during my artistic residency in Havre-St-Pierre and the Mingan Islands. It was created on a loose canvas and then mounted on a wooden frame (which means the back of the canvas is not perfectly even, but that's part of the job, haha). The edges of the canvas are painted black and a hanging device is installed on the back.
